MEP (Member of the European Parliament) Sophie In 't Veld has been nominated by European Voice for
MEP of the year. An interesting achievement considering the current situation of her home party (D66).
Her presence in the Parliament has not only been significant for her outspoken vision on gay rights, but
also through her contributions to the dominating debates on civil liberties and against the poor reactions
from European leaders about the secret CIA-jails in Europe. Many remember her for her performance on
the Italian television where she passionately defended the Dutch euthanasia policies (in Italian) in a debate with the Italian Minister Giovanardi (whom compared the Dutch euthanasia policies with the Nazi-regime).
Sophie is for us a valuable contact whom repeatingly brings to attention of the EP cases of HR violations
of LGBT people. Only two weeks ago she hosted the launch of ILGA-Europe's and IGLYO's publication on social exclusion of LGBT young people. Not a single commitment - as she promised to organise a similar
event in one year time, where the developments in this area shall be evaluated.
So vote for her: www.ev50.com!
