More administrative fines for Riga anti-Pride hooligans
The highest fine 40 Latvians Lats (ca 60 Euros) was given to Lauris Vilks (born 1969). VIkrots Birze (born 1982), leader of the National Force Union, received a find of 35 Latvian Lats (ca 52 Euros) and Ilja Gorjackins (born 1988) and the only who brought a solicitor to represent him, received a find of 25 Latvian Lats (ca 38 Euros). The court acquitted Arturs Apfelbaums (born 1985).
Linda Freimane, representative of the alliance of LGBT people and their friends ‘Mozaika’ said such punishment is not adequate and not qualified correctly. “This is not petty hooliganism but an incitement to hatred. The punishment for such activities must be heavier so the others would clear that similar activities carry heavy punishment and the state considers them as serious offences” said L. Freimane.
Four hooligans were already fined to 23-50 Latvians Lats (ca 38-75 Euros) by the Riga Central district court and two were acquitted for taking part in anti-pride protests.
Latvian legal experts already said that anti-Pride activities which included throwing excrements should not be qualified as petty hooliganism according to Administrative Code but hooliganism according to Criminal Law.
The General Prosecutor has already issued protest against the decision of the Riga Central district court decisions asking for annulment of its decisions and forwarding all materials to the General Prosecution office for initiating criminal prosecutions against anti-Pride hooligans.
