Mozaīka, an organisation of lesbians, gays, bisexuals, transgendered people and their friends, has filed suit with the Administrative District Court in Rīga to appeal a decision by the Rīga City Council to ban this Saturday’s march in the Vērmaņdārzs park, LETA was told by Evita Elliņa, an assistant to the chief justice of the court.

The court has not decided to accept the appeal and to launch an administrative case. If the Mozaīka complaint is accepted, the court will probably hear it tomorrow, added Elliņa.

As reported before, the executive director of the city of Rīga, Andris Grīnbergs, announced yesterday that approval of the march in the Vērmaņdārzs park that is being organised by Mozaīka, an organisation of lesbians, gays, bisexuals, transgendered people and their friends, was based strictly on the law. Today, however, a second commission meeting banned the march.

As has been reported, Friendship Day events were planned for this weekend, from May 15-17, in Rīga, LETA was told by representatives of Mozaīka. The march in the Vērmaņdārzs park was planned for May 16.
