The deputy mayor of Rīga, Almers Ludviks (First Party of Latvia/Latvia’s Way) believes that the sexual minorities march or pride event that is scheduled to take place in Rīga next weekend is a purposeful provocation which threatens security and moral standards in the city, the Apollo portal was told by the Public Information Division of the Rīga City Council.

“As acting chairman of the Rīga City Council, I hereby express the view that only traditional values, only a natural family with a mommy, a daddy and children can be understood and accepted by our nation as a family type, because only then can the nation be strong and survive. A natural family is unique, because only it carries life forward for future generations,” says Ludviks.

He thinks that there are several reasons why the march is unacceptable. He believes that it is in contradiction to values that are historically understandable in Latvia. What is more, he said, the Rīga City Council has received several letters which cannot be ignored.

“It would be all the more unacceptable if this small group of people, who are run from abroad, were given the right to threaten our country’s families and the microclimate therein,” says the deputy mayor.
