In August 2003 Armenia adopted a new Criminal Code and abolished the anti-gay article 116 that dated back to 1936. Since then, homosexuality is no longer punishable. At the same time a "gay scene" started to emerge in the capital with some gay-friendly bars, cafes and clubs. But still there is no single LGBT organization. Armenia has yet a long way to go regarding the acceptance of homosexuality.
