ILGA-Europe’s wishes for a lasting legacy of the European Year of Equal Opportunities
ILGA-Europe’s vision is of a world freed from discrimination and inequality; base on the human rights of all…..
We wish for our organisation, ILGA-Europe, to be inclusive and respectful of multiple identities….
…by challenging our own prejudices about others; by implementing programmes to increase the diversity among our membership; by continuing to build alliances and coalitions with other equality NGOs at national and European levels
And we wish this for all of the sister organisations involved in human rights and equality work. We take the learning from the year 2007 into our work, and especially that of solidarity with other excluded people.
We wish for the European Commission and the European Union as a whole to fulfill President Barroso’s commitment to make Europe truly a continent where equality becomes a reality.…
….by bringing forward and adopting harmonised legislation providing equal protections against discrimination for all grounds, including sexual orientation and gender identity, in all areas of life.
…..by developing a comprehensive programme of actions with NGO’s, the judiciary and legal practitioners, the Equality Bodies, the Social Partners and policy implementers so as to make this a reality
We wish for the Member States to take the political leadership necessary to make equality a reality for all….
….by committing to national action plans for equality and by ensuring the continuity of the positive cooperation between civil society and government officials fostered through the national implementing bodies.
All actors working at all levels and all taking their responsibility to make equality a reality for all and we can review progress at the next Equality summit.
