Campaign for a new European anti-discrimination legislation

After years of calling for new EU law to expand legal protection against different forms of discrimination, the European Commission will finally be proposing a new anti-discrimination directive in June 2008.

This new directive is a unique opportunity to make sure that everyone is protected equally across the EU against discrimination based on sexual orientation, age, disability, religion and belief, not just in employment, but in all areas of life.

At the moment, there are no guarantees that a proposed legislation would:

1) cover the ground of sexual orientation (as well as age and religion/belief)

2) apply to all areas of life outside employment

NOW is the time to take action to make sure that this opportunity is not lost for any group!

We therefore need your support to campaign in favour of a new EU law that would protect everyone against discrimination based on sexual orientation, disability, age, religion and belief.

What is the campaign about?

At the moment, there is no guaranteed equal protection against discrimination based on sexual orientation, age, disability, religion and belief in relation to access to social protection, goods and services, health care and education at the European level.

This campaign is to call for a new European law to protect everyone against discrimination in all areas of life.

What can you do to contribute to this campaign?

The European Commission is expected to make a proposal for a new anti-discrimination directive this spring and to adopt it by the end of June 2008.
